Murtha to Run for Assembly
Campaign will focus on job creation and budget reform
State Representative John Murtha
(R-Baldwin) announced this week that he will
again run for the 29th Assembly District.
Murtha’s campaign will focus on job creation
and budget reform.
“I made a commitment to my constituents to
work hard on the issues most important to
them,” said Murtha. “Our most important
issue right now is getting people back to
work.”
As a small business owner and job creator,
Murtha understands what it takes to get our
state’s economy moving again. “We need to
make Wisconsin competitive again by
controlling government spending, lowering
taxes, streamlining the permit process, and
inserting common sense into the government
process,” said Murtha. “Constituents I have
spoken with understand that you don’t raise
taxes and increase spending when people are
struggling and out of work.”
Murtha said he opposed Governor Doyle’s
stimulus plan and state budget which raised
taxes by over $5 billion dollars and
increased state spending by 10 percent
during the worst recession in a generation.
“Our state cannot handle another round of a
tax and spend, liberal agenda,” Murtha said.
“I believe we have an opportunity for real
reform in Madison while getting our state
back to work. And it starts with listening
to the people outside of Madison.”
Murtha serves on the Assembly Committees on
Agriculture, Rural Economic Development, and
Housing. He was also appointed to serve as
rural Wisconsin’s lone voice on the
Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development
Authority Board (WHEDA).
Murtha and his wife Terrie reside in the
Town of Eau Galle and are the owners and
operators of Murtha Sanitation located in
Baldwin. They are the proud parents of four
children and two grandchildren. Murtha is
also known for performing around his
district with the band, “Trigger Happy.”
The 29th District consists of portions of
Dunn, Pierce, and St. Croix Counties. The
general election is scheduled for Tuesday,
November 2.
